After taking a break in 2018, Glastonbury music festival is back for summer 2019. Glastonbury is one of the biggest festivals in the UK and is known for hosting big artists like Lorde, Ed Sheeran, and Solange. The festival usually sells around 1 million single use plastic water bottles, but this year, they are banning them. To replace plastic bottles, Glastonbury is encouraging fans to bring reusable bottles and hundreds of free water taps around the festival site. However, if fans do not have reusable bottles, they will be selling water and other drinks in aluminium cans which are easier to recycle.
This is a great stride for the music business. It shows that no matter what industry you are in, you can make a difference and help the planet. I thinks Glastonbury is just the start of this change. Other music festivals will slowly follow and do more to make their show environmentally friendly. Glastonbury doing this also stresses to fans how important being environmentally friendly is. The creator of the festival expressed how he hopes that when fans leave the festival they know even small changes every day can make a big difference. The plastic ban will probably also move beyond water bottles. "Dirty Hit" record label in Manchester, UK's founder, Jamie Oborne, tweeted saying that he would soon ban plastic CD cases. Glastonbury is only the start to a bigger movement.
